NOSTALGIA explores the ambivalence of the nostalgic condition, the desire to be always where one is not and its inherent impossibility. This approach to nostalgia provides an opportunity to propose alternate lives for myself. Reflecting on my experience of moving from one country to another, I draw upon displacement as a fundamental tool that creates the bridge between memories and nostalgia.
This work is presented as a video installation with original sound, movies within movies with a shared aural space in which the final images become a sort of palimpsest. The short videos feature images of me wandering around or performing simple but nonsensical acts, projected onto various uneven surfaces, creating ghost-like layers of imagery intended as metaphors for invented memories.
